Jesus said, “I tell you the truth … there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed – only Naaman the Syrian.”
The Bible said that all the people in the synagogue were furious with Jesus. They drove him out of the town and even wanted to throw Him down the cliff. But Jesus walked right through the crowd and went on His way. (Luke 4:25-30)
Jesus was pointing out the people’s unbelief.
The fishermen, Simon Peter, James and John had worked hard all night and had not caught anything. Jesus told Simon to go into deep water and let down the nets. Simon did as he was told and they caught such a large amount of fish that their nets began to break. (Luke 5:4-6)
Simon believed Jesus.
Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
Dear Father God,
Today, we come before Your throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hear our prayers, search our hearts, and see if there is anything that is not right. Forgive us Lord!
Your Word is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Change our hearts Lord!
Put Your laws in our minds and write them on our hearts. You are our God and we are Your people. Forgive our wickedness and remember our sins no more!
In Jesus’ name I pray.
