Quiet Time with Jesus – “IF”

Sunday, 23 August 2015

God wants us to be active living disciples – hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).

God does not want us to remain in our old selves. When Jesus talked about discipleship, He prefaced His words with an “if”:

I am the vine; you are the branches. IF a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
— John 15:5
IF anyone who does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.
— John 15:6
IF you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
— John 15:7
IF you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
— John 15:10

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Your Word says that we died, and our lives are now hidden with Christ in You. (Colossians 3:3)

By the power of the Holy Spirit, we shall set our hearts and minds on things above. We are being renewed day by day in the knowledge of Christ. Clothe us with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Help us to bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we may have against one another. Help us to put on love, which binds us all together in perfect unity with Christ in You. The peace of Christ shall rule in our hearts and the word of Christ shall dwell in us richly.

In Jesus’ name I pray.

Lam Yee Ling

Father, not my will but Yours be done. Amen.
