Life for those who follow Christ can be baffling and confusing. Yet it is precisely when the natural light fails that we need the light of God’s revelation. Selwyn Hughes said that the temptation in such times is to ‘light one’s own fire’ by taking control of the situation rather than to trust God.
The Bible says that those who trust in the Lord will never be dismayed or put to shame (Isaiah 28:16 and 1 Peter 2:6).
Trusting God is not inertia (inactivity). Jesus tells us that we should always pray and not give up (Luke 18:1).
One time I was so overwhelmed by someone’s burden that I lost focus. Instead of fixing my eyes on Jesus, I was looking at other brothers and sisters in Christ … The circumstances became so overpowering that I was no longer able to get to the underlying truth.
Oswald Chambers said that our work is to be in such close contact with God that we may have His mind about everything … God creates … through intercessory prayer.
Dear Father God,
Help us to trust in You and fix our eyes on You when we pray.
For Your thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are our ways Your ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are Your ways higher than our ways and Your thoughts than our thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is Your word that goes out from Your mouth: It will not return to You void, but will accomplish what You desire and achieve the purpose for which You sent it. (Isaiah 55:8-11) Amen.
Your Word says, “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD" (Jeremiah 17:5) "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. " (Jeremiah 17:7-8) Amen.
Help us to abide in You and Your Word at all times. In all circumstances, may we have the mind of Christ.
In Jesus’ mighty name we pray.
Lam Yee Ling
Father, not my will but Yours be done. Amen.
