Quiet Time with Jesus – Contempt

Monday, 17 August 2015

The sins of God’s people brought them into exile. Sin has put us into exile - living in a fallen world, fighting against sin every day. Complaining when God is providing is sin. Criticizing a man (or woman) of God is sin. Showing contempt when the Word of God is being preached is sin. According to my dictionary, the word ‘contempt’ means ‘feeling that something is worthless, despicable … Any problem that comes between God and ourselves is the result of disobedience. Disobedience is sin.

When problems arise while we are obedient to God and His Word, we will have His peace. They are opportunities when we can see the hand of God move in our circumstances … We know that our Father knows and cares …

Jesus said,

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
— John 14:27

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

When I realized that our life on earth is just an exile and You are leading us out of ‘Egypt’, out of the ‘land of slavery’ – slavery to sin - my heart rejoices.

Help us LORD to see Your hand in every circumstance, be joyful always, pray continually and give thanks for this is Your will for us in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

O Sovereign LORD, even for those of us who have read or heard Your Word being preached many times, You always have something new for us. I pray for all readers and hearers of Your Word, including myself, to have an open mind and an open heart to receive what You are giving us. Your peace be with us. Amen.

Paul said, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” (Romans 16:20)

In the name of Jesus, I say “Amen!”

Hallelujah!

Father, not my will but Yours be done. Amen.
