There had been times when I was hurt by the words of a brother or sister. My immediate response was usually negative, but when the Holy Spirit brings it back to mind during quiet time, it becomes a lesson, a ‘life skill’ to be put to practice. I thank God for speaking to me and showing me the way to go.
On my mind this morning were the following words:
Be on track, on course and on guard.
On track – be on the right track;
On course – always learning what God wants me to learn;
On guard – be careful;
A dear sister came to mind and I want to honor her:
She was on track – always seeking God for the right direction;
She was on course – she has a desire to acquire new ‘skills’; she is always learning something; always seeking God’s wisdom and guidance in her growth in Christ;
She is always on guard – praying without ceasing; she is always guarding her mouth, and guarding her heart;
The above verses tell me the importance and responsibility of a mentor/mentee relationship.
Paul wants the Corinthians to be letters from Christ, a result of his ministry … written with the Holy Spirit … letters alive … living letters from Christ.
I have witnessed many occasions when leaders / teachers / mentors are speaking to followers / learners / mentees …
[Sometimes, it is appropriate to speak with an authoritative posture especially when something wrong needs to be put right e.g. a rebuke in the name of Jesus.]
At all times, we need to be on guard - when we speak, words are important, facial expression and body language is also important. What comes out of the mouth comes out of the heart.
I get inspired when my leader is inspiring … he / she stirs up joy in my spirit … not drudgery or duty.
I want to do what I like – hahaha – don’t get me wrong – what I like is what God likes – I will do well the things that I like to do, I will do well the things that I long to do – I will enjoy – it is that ‘special joy’ that comes from knowing that my Father is pleased. His affirmation is my reward – it is a recognizable ‘feeling’ in my spirit – a whisper ‘well done’ – not uttered by human lips but spoken into my heart. Thanks be to God!
Dear Father God
As You teach me, You are teaching Your other children too. I pray and ask in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that we take time to check ourselves – to be on track, on course and on guard.
Teach us to be an inspiration. Give us a vision for tomorrow and courage for today!
Father God, please write on our hearts. Let us be Your letter written by Your Spirit! Yes, amen!
We want to abide, obey and be Your letter – alive and well;
We want to be Your lamp - through which Your light shines;
We want to be the ‘change’ – that You want to see in this world;
Through us - Your will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven! Yes, amen!
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
I pray for all who preach and teach, for all who mentor and make disciples.
I pray that their words shall be the words You want them to say.
Make us ready listeners too.
Holy Spirit, guard our mind, guard our heart, guard our lips.
Father, give us a clear mind, a sharp mind, a sound mind. Give us the mind of Christ.
In Jesus’ wonderful name I ask and pray.
