How do we impact the world?

Max Lucado

Live a holy life: Be faithful to your spouse; Be the one at the office who refuses to cheat; Be the neighbor who acts neighborly. Be the employee who does the work and doesn’t complain; Pay your bills; Do your part and enjoy life; Don’t speak one message and live another. People are watching the way we act more than they are listening to what we say.

Action speaks louder than words. My second daughter is a teacher, not just an academic teacher but the disciplinary mistress of the school where she works. The additional role puts her on guard not just in the classroom or school premises but on the road as well. She will never know who is watching but, what is most important, she must know that God is watching too. He is not just watching the way we act on the outside, He is more interested in what we are on the inside.

God is in the ‘transformation’ business. He is only interested in transforming us from the old person to the new. He is only interested in restoring us to His image. Let’s cooperate with the One who loved us so much that He sent His Son to die on the cross for us.

Let’s journey with Jesus who often withdrew from other people to be alone. Jesus was never really alone because He was always with His Father.

There was only one time when Jesus felt deeply alone – that time when He cried out to God saying, “Why have You forsaken Me?”

“Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.”
— John 6:15

We often think like the world too. We want to be ‘king’. But, Jesus thinks differently. He runs away from what seems ‘good’ to be alone with our Father …

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

As I enter into Your presence, still my soul …

I want to see You face-to-face, to speak with You heart-to-heart …

I want to listen to Your voice speaking to me …

I want to say – Father, I’m sorry, I failed You again …

But LORD, You are the same yesterday, today and forever. You are full of grace and compassion. You are the God of restoration!

Give us words to speak - the right words at the right time at the right place to the right person.

Give us courage to say words like ‘I’m wrong. Please forgive me’

Give us words that would uplift a downcast person, words that would heal a heart;

Send us to the neglected, rejected, unwanted;

Send us to speak life into dead situations;

Send us to light up the world;

Let us not forget Your Word:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”
— John 15:1-2

Send us to the lost, the least, and the last;

Send us to the helpless, the hopeless and the homeless.

May Your presence go before us, with us and behind us.

In Jesus’ name I pray.

Song: Come Breath of Life

Come Breath of Life, and cause our hearts to rise; Come make us strong before Your searching eyes; Oh Breath of Life, renew us in Your ways; Come sweeping in, and set Your church ablaze;

Come Breath of Life, and breathe upon us now; Lord light Your fire inside of us; Come Breath of Life, and fill us with Your power; Oh Breath of life, revive our hearts again … Amen.

Lam Yee Ling

Not my will but Yours be done. Amen.
